About Me

My photo
I am a 29-ish yr old married mother of 8. My family is my life and I wouldn't have it any other way. My darling husband is my very best friend and together we are raising 8 of the best kids in the world! They are Rose(12) Sarah(12) Ammon(10) Malachi(8) Gabriel(7) Hannah(5) Maggie(4) and Abbie(3) We currently own 2 dogs, 1 bird, 5 chinchillas, 1,000,000 rabbits, 1 cat, 4.5 horses, and one ferret. We just purchased a home that is definately a "fixer-upper", with land and room for the kids to roam. Our goal is to run a mostly self sustaining farm and live in peace as we grow as a strong family unit. We have seen our fair share of hardships, but we are thankful for the many blessings the Lord gives us on a regular basis!

My Malachi

This is my Malachi! Those of you who know him, know that he is quite a character! For those of you who don't... you're missing out! This picture was actually taken about a year ago...but it's one of my favorites! He used two pencils, a broken car, a rubber band, a Batman cape, and a pair of boxers to come up with this costume!
It seems like each child goes through their own shining hour. This seems to be Malachi's. In a period of about one week, he has grown so much! He lost his first tooth, learned to ride his bike and is learning to read! A few months ago he decided he wanted to become a scientist. He doesn't care what kind of scientist, as long as he gets the white coat!

So, today we had a big science day. I like to group an entire unit into one day so that I don't have to worry about the mess of the experiments and project through out the week. Any way we learned all about the Earth and it's three layers. There was an online simulation where we all went on an "elevator" to the center of the earth. At the end of each lesson I give each of the kiddos an oral assessment to check their comprehension.

I began with Rose. She didn't remember every thing but did pretty good. The same was true with Sarah. Then there was Ammon who had a blast with the project but couldn't tell me the crust from the core. No biggie...we'll keep working on it.

Then it was Malachi's turn...He was quite bored with this "test" and sighed and rolled his eyes a lot! But the last question answer just about killed me!

What is the name of the scientist who studies the earth? "Geologist"

Name the three layers of the Earth from the outside in. "crust, mantle, and core"

True or False: The Earths crust is made up of rocks soil water and ice. "true"

Is the Earths core made up of hot water or hot metal? "Hot metal, Iron"

Which layer of the Earth makes up the biggest portion - the crust or the mantle? "the mantle"

Which layer of the Earth is the hottest? "the core"

Which is the coolest? His eyes lit up! "When we went in the elevator all the way down to the center of the Earth, past the Mantle...to the core where it was really really hot and it was all melted iron... THAT was the COOLEST!"
I marked them all correct!

That's adorable! He's so cute! The picture of his missing tooth makes hime look so much more like John than himself. Too funny how that works!

What a fabulous future scientist! You need to let him watch the science demonstrations done by the 71 year old Dutch professor from M.I.T. Malachi would love them. (Of course it is called death defying science, but it looks fun!
