About Me

My photo
I am a 29-ish yr old married mother of 8. My family is my life and I wouldn't have it any other way. My darling husband is my very best friend and together we are raising 8 of the best kids in the world! They are Rose(12) Sarah(12) Ammon(10) Malachi(8) Gabriel(7) Hannah(5) Maggie(4) and Abbie(3) We currently own 2 dogs, 1 bird, 5 chinchillas, 1,000,000 rabbits, 1 cat, 4.5 horses, and one ferret. We just purchased a home that is definately a "fixer-upper", with land and room for the kids to roam. Our goal is to run a mostly self sustaining farm and live in peace as we grow as a strong family unit. We have seen our fair share of hardships, but we are thankful for the many blessings the Lord gives us on a regular basis!

The Head Piece...

When I was a little girl of about 12 my sister, Missy, began taking me to SCA events. One that I particularly remember was at St. Mary of the Woods collage. Missy made me a skirt and loaned me her favorite headpiece. It was hand made by one of her friends. I remember looking so elegant in it (a rarity for me)! I loved to show it off as different gentlemen stopped me to ask who had made it. At the time, I was sure it was how exquisite I looked in it that attracted them. Little did I know they were just interested in the craftsmanship.
Well, years have passed. I now have daughters that same age. My nephew's 12th birthday party was a Renaissance theme. Missy set to work creating wonderful costumes for all of the children who attended! I almost cried when I saw my Rose in the very same headpiece that I had worn so many years ago. It was a little worn, the pearls didn't seam as shiny to me as they once had. But Rose didn't notice. She held her head high and giggled and flirted in the same way that I once did. It truly turned her into a princess.
At the end of the day, Missy pulled Rose aside and told her that she was giving her the head piece. Rose now has it in a special place in her room and says it is her favorite thing. I know that she will always treasure it. I'm sure it sounds a little silly to be so sentimental about something so simple, but watching my daughter that day, truly caused me to re-live one of my favorite childhood memories. That in itself, was a priceless gift!
Thank you Missy.

I LOVE this! So you had dealings with the SCA too, huh? I didn't, but my husband did and his sister lives it like a lifestyle, to this day! :) I think your feelings about seeing your daughter with the headpiece on, must be similar to what I feel seeing my Zoie dress her baby dolls in the doll clothes that were made for me by my grandma, when I was little. I am constantly telling her to play gently with them! :) They are so special to me, especially since my grandma died a long time before Zoie was even born. It's like passing on a piece of family history! So priceless and special! :0)

Ok...just for the record...I'm all choked up and teary eyed.
Love you all! It brings back good memories for me too...the magic of being able to escape back in time for a day, and be a lady for a while, and then being able to watch you do the same thing, and just enjoying the pleasure that you took from it too, and knowing how excited you felt...and now them. They are so beautiful, and just get such joy out of life. And I love watching them enjoy the same things that we did. She looks like a princess! What a beautiful pic!
